History of Legalization in Arizona
The evolution that resulted in legalized cannabis in Arizona demonstrates an ostensibly gradual shift from prohibition to a modernization framework in the use of cannabis for both medical and recreational purposes.
Arizona took its first big step at legalization with Proposition 200 in 1996. Proposition 200 enabled physicians to prescribe marijuana to patients with serious conditions; however, federal restrictions limited its implementation. A breakthrough in cannabis legalization occurred on November 2, 2010, when Arizona legalized marijuana for medical use with the passage of Proposition 203, which is also known as the Arizona Medical Marijuana Act.
The Arizona Medical Marijuana Act allowed patients with certain qualifying conditions (such as cancer, PTSD, chronic pain and epilepsy) to use medical marijuana. Patients could purchase cannabis at licensed dispensaries up to (2.5) ounces every (14) days and were required to obtain a medical marijuana card from Arizona Department of Health Services. In May of 2011, the first dispensaries in Arizona opened. Arizona would take the next step toward legality and federal acceptance of cannabis legislation when voters approved Proposition 207, also known as the Smart and Safe Arizona Act, on November 3, 2020. Proposition 207 ultimately legalized recreational cannabis for adults over the age of (21) in the state and allowed adults to purchase up to (1) ounce of marijuana, which includes (5) grams of concentrates, per transaction. It also allowed adults to have up to (2.5) ounces and grow up to (6) plants for personal use.
The Arizona Department of Health Services regulates licensing for dispensaries and ensures compliance with rigorous safety and testing protocols. By 2023, Arizona's cannabis market had expanded to over 150 licensed dispensaries, with sales exceeding $1 billion annually, indicating a high level of public support. Weed delivery in Arizona is permitted as long as there are rules in place by the Department of Health Services. Licensed dispensaries, like 1-8oz.com, are allowed to deliver to customers, as long as they check their age and verify their medical status. While the law has evolved to allow for some convenience to patients, public consumption remains illegal and driving under the influence can carry harsh penalties. 1-8oz.com adheres fully to all laws, and we make an honest effort to be a credible Arizona weed dispensary for both medical and recreational users wanting safe and legal access to cannabis.
